Do Jang Rules

  1. Arrive at least 10 minutes early for class, testing, or an event. Students should sit quietly on the side of the training floor until it is time for their class. Make sure you have all of your required equipment, uniform, and practice gear.
  2. Always show respect by bowing to Instructors, Black Belt Students, and guest. Especially when not asked or instructed to.
  3. Salute the flags and bow upon entering & leaving the training floor.
  4. Always maintain a clean uniform. Replace old uniforms promptly. Do not come to class in a dirty uniform. Uniforms should be laundered after each class.
  5. Avoid taking part in horseplay or loud conversations before or after class.
  6. Please keep your toenails & fingernails trimmed and clean to ensure safety when working with partners. Please pull back & secure long hair.
  7. Look and listen with the intent to learn.
  8. Always remove shoes before going on the floor or training room. This includes with you are a guest or at a temporary training facility (tournament, etc…)
  9. No drinks (except water), food, or chewing gum is allowed in the training room.
  10. All students and members should assist in cleaning the do jang. Cleanliness is important.
  11. Students and members should observe protocol and the martial way at all times.
  12. If you arrive late to class, wait by the side of the floor with your hand raised until you are noticed by the instructor. They will then allow you to join the class. DO NOT just walk on the floor. This is for your safety. You are late. It is the instructor’s choice if you are allowed to participate in classes today. Do not call their name or try to get their attention. They will allow you to join when they see fit.
  13. If you forgot your uniform, belt, or training equipment, you may line up with permission of your instructor. If you do not have your uniform, you must line up at the very end. If you do not have your belt, you will also line up at the end. If you do not have your sparring gear, weapon, or other needed training item, your instructor may not allow you to participate in certain aspects of the class. It is the student’s responsibility to come to class with all the training items needed for each class. No excuses are accepted.
  14. Approved martial arts training shoes are allowed for individuals who have issues with legs, knees, or feet. You should seek permission from the senior instructor. At no time are street shoes, sandals, boots, socks, or any types of footwear allowed on the training floor. See your instructor to order approved martial arts shoes.
  15. Students who enter the training hall or studio shall bow when entering & exiting. It does not matter if they are in street clothes or uniform. They shall bow to the instructor on the floor to acknowledge their presence and to show respect. Avoid “quick bows”, “walking bows”, or incorrect bowing. Stop, face the instructor, and bow. Do this with intent and respect. It is one of the most important things in martial arts.
  16. No jewelry or smart watches may be worn during class. The only exception is a wedding band for adults. For those students who have body jewelry, we strongly recommend that you cover your jewelry with a band aid or medical tape.
